If you've got a leash pulling dog, then you know dogs are willing to suffer quite a bit just to drag you down the street at their own pace. They'll cough and choke themselves before letting up! And yes, that strain is bad for necks - some dogs on choke chains even get tracheal damage. (One of the reasons we don't sell choke chains, read more about the dangers of choke chains and other punishments here.)
But the damage doesn't stop at the neck. All that pulling puts pressure on the eyes too - as much pressure as glaucoma even. Ouch. (Read the research here.) So save your dog the pain and potential physical damage and get a walking harness.
Hahaha you say - "my dog will turn into a little sled dog and pull me even harder if he can get his whole chest into it! I'd rather not have my arm ripped out of the socket, thanks." Yes, yes, we know. He'll be able to pull harder on a harness. So try an Easy Walk Harness, a Sporn No-Pull Harness, or a Gentle Leader Head Collar. Any
of these products will take the pressure off the neck and help reduce pulling.
